1. Is Pico laser for Hyper-pigmentation painful?
Contrary to popular belief, Pico Laser session is, in fact, a very comfortable process. To reduce any sensation, a numbing cream can be applied on the skin prior to the laser session. It feels like a warm and gentle pricking sensation on the skin.
2. Will there by any bleeding or downtime?
For Hyper-pigmentaton, there is mild flushing of the treated area which usually resolves after a few hours. More obvious localized redness lasting a few days may occur with intensive spot treatments for more resistant pigmentation.
3. How many sessions will I need?
5 to 8 sessions may be required depending on the extent of your pigmentation and the treatment level of your sessions. The treatment may be repeated every 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the type, extent and severity of your pigmentation.
4. How much improvement can I see after laser treatment?
Generally, you can expect visible improvements of about 50% - 90%, depending on the type and severity. Having said that, if you have an extremely severe case of pigmentation, you are encouraged to consult and seek advise from your medical aesthetics physician and maintain your expectations and not to expect completely clear, smooth skin after the treatment program. Do talk to your physician in-charge because compliance to their instructions is very crucial to getting the best results.
5. Will your hyper-pigmentation issue come back after treatment?
Hyper-pigmentation aggravated by sun exposure (especially freckles, solar lentigo, melasma) tend to recur if there is insufficient post-treatment maintenance like sun protection or a proper skincare regime.
Dermal Pigmentation problems like Hori’s Naevus do not recur once properly treated. The same goes with Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation.
